ROCHESTER, NY (August 1st, 2014) If they succeed in winning the hosting duties of one of two potential 2014 MLL playoff games, The Rochester Rattlers will have a new venue to continue their chase of the MLL Steinfeld Trophy on Saturday, August 16th. Rattlers COO Brad Ford announced, in conjunction with Major League Lacrosse, that Aquinas Institute’s Wegmans Stadium is the site for the much anticipated semi-final playoff game if hosted by Rochester.
“It is truly exciting that we are in a position to host a playoff game here in Rochester, and the fact we may be playing in such a great facility like Wegmans Stadium is particularly special for everyone involved” said Ford. The change in venue comes off a scheduling conflict with their 2014 regular season home Sahlen’s Stadium. He continued “Tony Bianchi (Aquinas’ Athletic Director) and our franchise have a tremendous relationship. We are very familiar with the campus (Rattlers use it as their practice facility), and they’ve gone over and above in accommodating us all season long, especially during this time of great importance for our franchise.”
The Rattlers front office is working diligently to communicate logistical plans for all season ticketholders and fans, and what changes they can expect from this announcement. There will be further information in the next few days as details start to fall into place.
The Aquinas Institute is a college preparatory co-educational school inspiring students in grades 7 – 12. Beyond the school facility itself the campus grounds and Wegmans Stadium provide an intimate setting with parking, concessions, restrooms, and stadium seating with the ability for more bleacher seating if necessary. It’s located at 1127 Dewey Avenue, Rochester NY 14613.
In speaking with Aquinas AD Tony Bianchi, he said “Aquinas is absolutely thrilled to be the potential hosting site for the Rochester Rattlers and their playoff game. We have had a tremendous relationship with Coach Soudan and the team, and can’t wait to help them create an amazing experience for local lacrosse fans.”
The Rochester Rattlers could potentially lock up hosting duties this weekend as the take on the visiting Ohio Machine. Major League Lacrosse has released that there would be two semi-final playoff games on Saturday, August 16th. Starting times are set for both 3pm and 5:30pm, and which time slot is applied to a team will depend on playoff seeding.
