RATTLERS GET KEVIN LEVEILLE IN EXPANSION DRAFT TRADE

The Rochester Rattlers had the first overall pick in the Major League Lacrosse Expansion Draft and selected defensive midfield Dan Burns who was left unprotected by the Hamilton Nationals.  The Rattlers then packaged Burns, their second round supplemental draft pick and their third round supplemental draft pick to the Nationals for the rights to Kevin Leveille and their second round supplemental pick.

Kevin Leveille is an eight year veteran of Major League Lacrosse.  He ranks fifth in league history with 230 career goals and ninth with 298 career points.  He scored twenty or more goals for seven straight seasons from 2004 to 20010 with thirty or more goals four times.  He is also joins new teammate Grant Catalino as one of five players to have scored nine goals in one game when he did it on July 31, 2005.  He played for three years with the Boston Cannons (2003 – 2005) and five years with the Chicago Machine (2006 – 2010).

The Rattlers also had the twenty-fifth overall selection in the draft and they selected Jordan McBride.  The selection of McBride was an inspired draft-day maneuver by the Rattlers brain trust – Owner/GM Rob Clark, Assistant GM Nate Snyder, and Head Coach Tim Soudan.  The Rattlers had already lost defensive midfielder Dan Groot and middie Jordan Levine to the Ohio Machine, but the selection of McBride by the Rattlers meant that they had technically had three players drafted.  By the MLL Expansion Draft rules they could then pull another player back.  The Rattlers selected to pull back defensive midfield Brett Manney.

McBride played for the Rattlers in 2011 and scored sixteen goals in only seven games during his rookie campaign.  McBride was a four-time All-American at Stony Brook University where he scored forty or more goals each season for four straight seasons.  As a freshman, McBride had a record setting season with 44 goals and 11 assists for 55 points.  He added 41 goals as a sophomore and 48 goals as a junior before netting 41 goals last spring.  McBride finished his career tenth on the NCAA scoring list with 175 goals and 209 points.  He had 42 multi-goal games and 31 hat tricks.

Brett Manney was acquired in a trade deadline deal with the Chesapeake Bayhawks.   He played in the Rattlers last four games in 2011.
