Rattlers Looking Locally

The Rochester Rattlers selected Jordan MacIntosh (M) in the second round with the fifteenth overall selection.  MacIntosh played collegiately at local Division III powerhouse RIT.  In his two years with the Tigers MacIntosh scored seventy-nine goals with forty-nine assists for one hundred twenty-eight points.  He was a two-time USILA Division III All-American He scored thirty-five or more goals in both the 2010 and 2011 season.

“We believe that Jordan MacIntosh can be an impact player in MLL because of his tremendous athletic ability and his ability to play at both ends.”  Rattlers Coach Tim Soudan said.

MacIntosh played his first two years of college lacrosse at Gordon College.  He scored forty-seven goals and added twenty-five assists in twenty-four career games.  He was second on the team in scoring both years.

The Rochester Rattlers selected three players with ties to local Division I programs:  Syracuse University’s Brendan Loftus (M) (Round 9 – 67th overall), Cornell’s Ryan McClay (D) (Round 10 – 75th overall), and Albany’s Mark Kelly (D) (Round 13 – 99th overall).

Brendan Loftus was a key member of the Syracuse Orange 2008 NCAA National Championship Team.  As a senior Loftus started all eighteen games and scored twenty one goals.  Four of his goals were game winning goals.  Loftus also added four assists for twenty-five points.

Brendan Loftus was drafted by San Francisco and played eleven MLL games with them as a rookie in 2008.  He scored seventeen goals and added two assists for nineteen points as a rookie.  In 2009 Loftus played eleven games with the Chicago Machine and scored fifteen goals.  Loftus only played two games with the Denver Outlaws in 2010.

Cornell’s Ryan McClay was selected in the First Round of the MLL Collegiate Draft in 2003.  He played ninety-one games MLL games for New Jersey and Boston from 2003 to 2010 and collected 371 ground balls.  In 2010 McClay played with the gold medal winning Team USA in the World Lacrosse Championships in Manchester, England.  After the Championships he was named to the All-World Team.

Albany’s Mark Kelly grew up in Syracuse, New York and attended West Genesee High School.  Kelly broke into the Great Danes line-up as a sophomore when he played in all sixteen contests.  As a junior he was named to the  All-America East Conference Second Team after he scooped thirty ground balls.  As a senior Kelly was a team captain.  He collected forty-six ground balls and caused twenty-six turnovers.

The Rochester Rattlers also selected Steven Carlson (M) (Round 15 – 115th Overall), Mike Lazore (M) (Round 16 – 123rd overall), and Thomas Lee (M)(Round 17 – 131st overall).  All three players grew up in the Greater Rochester area. 

Steven Carlson grew up in Penn Yan and played Division I Lacrosse at Binghamton.  At Binghamton he was selected as the 2007 America East Rookie of the Year and later was selected First Team All-America East.  Carlson ended up sixth all-time at Binghamton in goals (45) and points (66).

Mike Lazore attended Hobart College and played four years of Division I lacrosse for the Statesmen.  As a senior Lazore recorded nine goals and added three assists for twelve points.  He also scored eight goals and added four assists as a junior middie.  Lazore finished his collegiate career with twenty-seven goals and ten assists.

Thomas Lee grew up in Victor and played college lacrosse at Delaware.  As a senior Lee won sixty percent of his face-offs at the “X”.  He also scooped ninety ground balls and scored two goals with two assists.  He earned second team All-CAA honors and was ranked third in the nation in faceoff winning percentage.
