Mike Manley has a lot of career highlights in lacrosse.  At Penn Yan Academy Manley was an All-American and led the Mustangs to the state final four every year he was in high school.  At Duke University Manley was named the ACC Rookie of the Year and an All-American after his junior year.  Now Manley is rated by Inside Lacrosse as the top defender available in the 2012 MLL Draft and a potential top five pick.

Manley’s lacrosse story began at Penn Yan Academy where he was a five year letter winner under coach Brian Hobart.  He led the squad to four NYSPHSAA Boy’s Lacrosse State Final Fours in his four high school years.  As a freshman he led Penn Yan to the state finals and as a sophomore, junior, and senior he led the Mustangs to the state semi-finals.  Manley was named an all-league selection as a sophomore and junior.  He was named the Defensive Player of the Year after his junior and senior seasons.  As a senior Manley was named to the All-America team.

While Manley would ultimately excel in lacrosse he was a three sport star for the Mustangs.  He also played football and hockey at Penn Yan Academy.  He lettered in football for three years and won the Defensive Player of the Year on two occasions.  He earned all-league and all-state recognition as well.  In hockey Manley was on a state championship team.

After his five year high school career with the Mustangs Manley chose to attend Duke University and play college lacrosse with the Blue Devils.

In his first-year with the Blue Devils Manley was named the ACC Rookie of the Year.  He played in and started eighteen games as a freshman.  He secured twenty-three ground balls and was part of a defensive unit that led the ACC and finished eighth in the nation in goals allowed per game with 8.30.  He tallied his only two points of the season, one goal and one assist, in a win over Maryland.

In 2009 Manley played in eighteen out of nineteen possible games as a sophomore and helped anchor a defense that allowed 8.42 goals per game.  He picked up thirty-four ground balls and caused eleven turnovers.  He was an All-ACC Tournament selection.

During his junior year Manley broke into the national spotlight when he was named a USILA Third Team All-American.  He started nineteen games and helped lead a defense that allowed only 8.98 goals per game.  He finished the season with forty-four ground balls and caused seventeen turnovers.  Manley caused three turnovers in the NCAA Tournament against both Johns Hopkins and North Carolina.  He was named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team.

Manley sat out the 2011 season with an injury and used a medical red shirt.  He is now healthy and ready to return to action with the Blue Devils this spring.

The 2012 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Entry Draft is Friday, January 13, 2012 in the Philadelphia Marriott’s Liberty Ballroom from 8:30PM to 11PM.  The draft will be broadcast via streaming video on the MLL’s website www.majorleaguelacrosse.com.  The Rochester Rattlers have the third overall pick in the 2012 draft.
