Rattlers Claim Cassalia

The Rochester Rattlers have claimed M Matt Cassalia from the Major League Lacrosse player pool.

Last year Cassalia returned to Major League Lacrosse with the Rochester Rattlers after a three year layoff.   He scored three goals and added one assist for four points in three games.  He also went five for nine on face-offs.

Cassalia is a western New York native who played for LeMoyne College in 2006 and 2007.  Cassalia led the Dolphins to back-to-back Division II National Championships and was named a first team All-American each of his two years with the program.

Cassalia joined the Dolphins for the 2006 season, when he went on to be named the Lt. Donald McLaughlin Jr. Award recipient as the Division II Midfielder of the Year.  Cassalia scored twice in the 12-5 win over Dowling in the 2006 Championship Game. He scored twenty-nine goals and added five assists for thirty-four points while also winning 64.3% of his face-off attempts.

En route to the Dolphins winning the 2007 National Championship, Cassalia registered twenty-five points on nineteen goals and six assists, including one goal in the 6-5 title game victory over Mercyhurst.

He spent his first two years at Loyola College (2004 & 2005).

Cassalia was originally drafted into Major League Lacrosse by San Francisco in the 2008 MLL Supplemental Draft.  He scored three goals in six games with San Francisco in 2008.
