Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced Rochester Rattlers attackman Ned Crotty has renewed his contract for the 2012 MLL season.
“It’s definitely good to be with MLL and returning to Rochester for the 2012 season.” Crotty said. “We had a good finish to last season. We’re looking to pick up right where we left off last season and make a push for the playoffs this year.”
Ned Crotty used a breakout 2011 Major League Lacrosse season to establish himself as one of the league’s best players and the Rochester Rattlers signature star. Crotty won the Major League Lacrosse scoring title with 50 points, topping the Boston Cannons Paul Rabil by one point during their showdown in the regular season finale at Harvard Stadium. Crotty also led the MLL in assists (29) and finished third in goals (21). He scored at least one goal in eleven of the Rattlers twelve games, and recorded two points or more in every game that the Rattlers played last season.
“Not only is this good news for the Rattlers and the league, but it’s also good news for the game of lacrosse.” Rochester Rattlers Head Coach Tim Soudan said. “Ned Crotty is one of the most exciting players in the game right now, but more than that he’s a great professional. He’s definitely someone young players in the community can look up to.”
Team and league accolades for Ned Crotty poured in over the course of the 2011 Major League Lacrosse season. Crotty was named to the All-Major League Lacrosse team for the first time in his career. He was also named the Rattlers Offensive Player of the Year and Most Valuable Player. Crotty was also named to the MLL All-Star Game for the first time in his career.
“Ned is definitely the guy that our attack runs through.” Rochester Rattlers Assistant General Manager Nathan Snyder said. “We’re bringing back a strong group of players from last year’s roster, we had a great draft, and we’ve made some good trades this off-season. Hearing that Ned has re-signed with MLL will definitely keep our momentum going and energize our fan base.”
While Ned Crotty established himself as a Major League Lacrosse superstar last season his 2010 rookie campaign was almost equally monumental. Crotty started off 2010 by winning the NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse championship with the Duke University Blue Devils. Then he was awarded the 2010 Tewaaraton Trophy, given annually to the nation’s most outstanding player, just before he was the number one overall selection in the 2010 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Entry Draft. Crotty scored eleven goals and added thirteen assists for twenty-four points in his rookie season. As a result, he was recognized as the Major League Lacrosse Cascade Rookie of the Year after the 2010 season. Crotty rounded out 2010 by winning a gold medal with Team USA in the World Lacrosse Championships.
