Thompson's co-recipients of lacrosse's top honor

Washington, D.C (May 29, 2014)  History is now on the side of the Thompson family.  The idealism they have for playing the game has finally reaped it’s just rewards.  Miles and Lyle, two brothers from the now nationally renowned lacrosse family that has captivated the lacrosse world and changed the entire landscape of the University of Albany’s program, have become the first co-recipients of the coveted Tewaaraton Award, given to college’s Most Outstanding Player.

After a record setting collegiate year for both, and for Miles his last, the duo take home the honor of being selected the best of the best in college lacrosse.  Miles, a 3rd round draft pick of the Rochester Rattlers in Major Lacrosse League, ends his career at Albany with 189 goals and 104 assists.  The 2014 season at the U of A saw him amass 82 goals, 37 assists and 119 points.  He is a first team All-American, first team All-America East (second consecutive season), and America East tournament MVP.   His 82 goals tied the single-season NCAA goals record set by Yale's Jon Reese.

In 2014 Lyle had 51 goals and 77 assists for a total of 128 points.  He was honored with the Enners Award (nation's most outstanding player), Turnbull Award (nation's top attackman), first team All-American (second consecutive season), America East player of the year (second consecutive season), first team All-America East.  He also broke the Division I record for points in a season, breaking former UMBC star Steve Marohl's 22-year-old record of 114.

The Thompsons, along with their cousin Ty (also a 2014 MLL draft pick of the Rattlers) led the Great Danes to the semi-finals of the NCAA Division 1 Tournament.

Miles and Ty Thompson are officially eligible and on the activated list for the Rattlers.  Mark Cockerton (A- Virginia) is also activated and, along with all incoming collegiate players will be in town for this team’s weekend game and practice pending all physical evaluations.
